Cancer Screening Program

Beverly Hills Cancer Center is empowering people to take charge of their health-through the power of prevention!

Customized Cancer Screening and Prevention Program - A proponent of cancer screening and prevention, we offer unique cancer screening and prevention programs customized to meet the special needs of each person, based on their risk factors. After scheduling a consultation with one of our physicians for a physical examination, and to assess the risk of developing cancer based on each individual person's particular medical history,  family and genetic history, and lifestyle habits (such as smoking, diet, and exercise), each person will be provided with a set of custom designed screening tests that may include laboratory tests, imaging (CT scan, MRI, PET/CT scan, or bone scan), and/or other personalized recommendations (including lifestyle). All screenings and testing, including diagnostic imaging scans, if any, would be based on an assessment of each person's risk factors in conjunction with recently published scientific research which provides specific recommendations for certain high risk individuals.

Our comprehensive and visionary facility is dedicated to excellence in care, healing and well-being. Please call to schedule an appointment with one of our physicians, and take charge of your health!

Free Cancer Screening- Beverly Hills Cancer Center has launched a community outreach program to educate and raise community awareness about screening for cancer. As part of this program, we are offering free screening tests for prostate and colon cancer.  Testing will include:  PSA blood test for Prostate cancer (for men), stool occult blood test for Colon cancer (for men and women), and other tests also provided.

Appointments for free testing will be held during the week and on different weekends as promoted. Please call the appointment line at (310) 432-8902 to make an appointment.

We want to educate as many people as possible about cancer screening, and empower them to take charge of their health. Please share this information with friends, family, acquaintances and to any groups or organizations that would like to help educate and raise cancer awareness, to help spread the word.

Highlighted Screening--CT Lung Cancer Screening

Beverly Hills Cancer Center offers a vast array of cancer screening and prevention services.  These screenings can diagnose and even help prevent many types of cancer, especially when caught early.  Lung cancer is one particular type of cancer for which recent studies have shown that CT lung screenings can help detect this cancer early--and save lives.

Can Lung Cancer Be Detected Early?
Early results of the recently published National Cancer Institute's National Lung Screening Trial suggest that people at increased risk for lung cancer who undergo annual CT screening have a 20% lower risk of dying from lung cancer, compared to high risk individuals who receive standard chest x-ray. The American Cancer Society estimates that 157,000 people in the US die of lung cancer each year. Since the majority of lung cancers are smoking-related, 30,000 lives could be saved if these people had undergone annual CT lung screening.

Because of the importance of detecting cancer early and results of this important national study, Beverly Hills Cancer Center offers a reduced-cost lung screening program that utilizes CT scans of the chest to detect lung cancer at its earliest, most treatable stages.

Who is Eligible for CT Lung Cancer Screening?
Although anyone can get lung cancer, the most important risk factors are age and having a significant history of smoking. Current medical research suggests that individuals at increased risk for lung cancer should consider undergoing CT lung screenings. Screening is encouraged for individuals who are:

• Over age 50
• Current or former smokers
• Asymptomatic (no symptoms of pre-existing lung malignancy)
• Those with a history of second-hand smoke exposure

Individuals with symptoms of lung cancer (persistent cough, unexplained weight loss or coughing up blood), should make an appointment to see one of our physicians for a consultation and possible screening services.

CT Scans for Smokers Could Lower Lung Cancer Deaths by 20 Percent
By Courtney Hutchinson, ABC News Medical Unit, June 29, 2011

Abstracted Article:
If all current or former heavy smokers over 55 were screened, there could be as much as a 20 percent reduction in the number of people dying from lung cancer, according to the results of the NLST, published in the New England Journal of Medicine.  These study results, first hinted at in a preliminary report released last November, offer the first solid evidence that screening high-risk patients using CT scans could reduce lung cancer deaths -- a finding that has at least 20 of the nation's major medical centers setting up CT lung screening programs of their own.

If caught earlier, 60 percent to 90 percent of lung cancers are curable, he says, making "a tool to diagnose lung cancer earlier ... a tremendous opportunity."

"Knowledge is power. Good, bad, or indifferent, the sooner I know the results, the better," said William Kennedy, a former smoker who jumped at the chance of getting screened when presented with the opportunity.
