Radiation Therapy: An Integral Part of Cancer Care

Radiation therapy is an integral part of cancer care. It may be a primary therapy by itself, or radiation therapy can be combined with chemotherapy, hormone therapy, surgery, or sometimes, all three.

The Division of Radiation Oncology at BHCC comprises highly trained radiologists in Los Angeles who are incredibly knowledgeable in radiation oncology and stereotactic radiosurgery. We offer among the very best, contemporary, state-of-the-art radiation oncology treatments in the private and comfortable setting of our Los Angeles treatment center. We strive to provide the highest quality of care to all our patients with the highest level of expertise and the most up-to-date technology available.

CT/PET scan machine

A PET/CT scan will show your doctor the size and location of any tumors.

On-site Diagnostic Imaging Helps Us Locate The Target

The Beverly Hills Cancer Center is fortunate to have a fully equipped diagnostic imaging facility which includes PET/CT, MRI, CT scans, ultrasound, and bone scans. This allows the physicians to utilize detailed information about the location of the tumor and its proximity to other organs, nerves, arteries, and tissues in order to more precisely target your tumor and minimize radiation exposure to other tissues. With more detailed and sophisticated treatment planning, radiation treatments can often be delivered more effectively to the tumor while minimizing radiation and potential side effects to normal tissues throughout the body.

Your Safety Is Paramount

At the Beverly Hills Cancer Center, patient safety is our first priority. Our radiologists in Los Angeles are highly trained and our treatment facility was built to specification to ensure that radiation treatments can be delivered to all patients as safely and effectively as possible. Whether radiation is given to the skin or the brain, we take all necessary steps to ensure that patients will not be exposed to unnecessary radiation, and we are diligent in reducing unnecessary or preventable radiation exposure as much as possible.

The outcomes of radiation therapy treatments are often dependent on the accuracy and precision of the radiation therapy treatment. Several technological advancements have improved patient outcomes and reduced treatment errors, including introducing 3D and 4D radiation treatment planning and sophisticated Electronic Medical Record systems. At the Beverly Hills Cancer Center, we use the most advanced Healthcare Informatics System, MOSAIQ, to ensure each highly sophisticated treatment's quality, safety, and accuracy.

Types of Radiation Therapy

We are proud to have among the best oncologists who will use different methods of radiology in Los Angeles to treat your cancer. The type of radiation used for each individual patient will depend on several factors, including the type of cancer being treated, its location within the body and proximity to other organs, tissues, arteries, and nerves, whether it has spread to other organs, such as the liver, lung, and brain, etc. Each patient’s radiation treatments are customized and uniquely crafted based on that patient’s circumstances.

Radiation treatment machine

Our radiation treatments are delivered utilizing a state-of-the-art Varian Linear Accelerator with an onboard imager for cone beam CT and KV films for daily image guidance (IGRT or Image Guided Radiation Therapy).

External Radiation Therapy

Three-dimensional Conformal Radiation Therapy (3D CRT)

Using advanced imaging technology to create 3D images helps our radiation oncologists define the target tumor with great precision.

Intensity-modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT)

By combining advanced imaging technology with different radiation beam intensities, our radiation oncologists can pinpoint and irradiate tumors while preserving surrounding healthy tissue.

High Dose External Radiation Therapy

Stereotactic Body Radio Radiotherapy (SBRT) and STEREOTACTIC RADIOSURGERY (srs)

This type of radiation therapy delivers high doses of focal and pinpoint radiation to tumors in a single or limited number of treatments.

X ray of the body

Our radiation oncologists used pinpoint focusing technology to deliver high dose radiation treatments to the site of this patient’s spinal tumor.

Brachytherapy

High Dose Rate (HDR) Brachytherapy

For this internal radiation treatment procedure, the Radiation Oncologist places a very small, short-range radiation source (radioisotope) directly at the site of the tumor, usually in 3-5 sessions. This allows radiation to be given from the inside out and maximizes radiation dose to the tumor.

Brachytherapy Los Angeles

A very small radiation source is carefully placed directly at the site of a tumor to deliver radiation only to the cancer.

Advanced Imaging Technology For Radiation Therapy

Image-guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT)

Because tumors can move between treatments, radiation oncologists at the Beverly Hills Cancer Center use image guidance technology to target even the most complex of cancers correctly.

Respiratory Gating And 4D CT

With advanced CT scanning software, Beverly Hills Cancer Center radiation oncologists can determine not just where a tumor is at one time, but also where it will be when it is in motion, as for example, a lung cancer that moves with each breath.

Cyberknife

Image-guided Cyberknife Radiosurgery

The Cyberknife system uses image guidance and computer controlled robotics to deliver pinpoint, high dose radiation beams from virtually any direction with sub-millimeter accuracy.
